Leukaemia Foundation thanks Health Minister Greg Hunt

Monday December 6, 2021

The Leukaemia Foundation thanks the Hon Greg Hunt MP for his contribution and service, following his announcement to retire from federal politics at the next election.

“Minister Hunt has been instrumental in improving the lives of those affected by blood cancer. Upon hearing the urgent call from those facing blood cancer, he responded,” Leukaemia Foundation CEO Chris Tanti said.

“He helped establish Australia’s first Blood Cancer Taskforce and commissioned the National Strategic Action Plan for Blood Cancer, accelerating us towards our shared goal of zero lives lost to blood cancer by 2035.

“Minister Hunt also supported the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and Medicare Benefits Schedule in making a host of new life-saving treatments and technologies more affordable and accessible.

“These actions have not only broken-down barriers to the best possible treatments but given the blood cancer community hope – a legacy the Leukaemia Foundation, together with people living with blood cancer, their families and loved ones won’t forget.

“We look forward to working with Minister Hunt for the remainder of his term while we undertake further actions from the National Action Plan and hope to work collaboratively in the future in our shared pursuit of improving the lives of Australians living with a blood cancer.”
