An overnight overhaul… Jimmy, Dannii, Amanda, Curtis, and Dylan have switched their ‘do’s’ for the World’s Greatest Shave
Thursday February 22, 2024
Much loved Australian icons and popular celebrity wax figures at Madame Tussauds Sydney – Jimmy Barnes, Dannii Minogue, Amanda Keller, Curtis Stone, and Dylan Alcott – all have one thing in common – they’ve just undergone their biggest hair transformations ever!
As part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s iconic World’s Greatest Shave, these ‘wax celebrities’ have had their hair overhauled, overnight, to raise vital funds for Australians living with blood cancer.
Forget the 80’s, 90’s and noughties, their latest hairstyles are something out of the ordinary and are set to shock visitors to the ever-popular tourist attraction.
“We’re very excited to partner with Madame Tussauds Sydney as they create something very special for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave,” said Chris Tanti, CEO, Leukaemia Foundation.
“This attraction, featuring inspiring and well-known Australians like Jimmy, Danni, Amanda, Curtis, and Dylan, is unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the 26 years of the campaign.
“It’s incredible to have the support of Madame Tussauds in this unique way, and we can’t wait to see the public’s reaction to the massive hair makeovers given to each celebrity.”
Madame Tussauds Sydney will host the World’s Greatest Shave Experience from 15 to 18 February with the public invited to head along and see it for themselves.
“This is the first time in our history, that Madame Tussauds Sydney has given a hair transformation to iconic Australian celebrities such as these,” said Chris Harvey, Head of Operations, Madame Tussauds Sydney.
“To partner with a trusted charity like the Leukaemia Foundation, which is synonymous with supporting Australians living with blood cancer, is a great honour for Madame Tussauds.
“We look forward to helping to raise some much-needed awareness of blood cancer, as well as funds for the thousands of Australians impacted by this horrible disease.”
Along with the World’s Greatest Shave Experience, professional hair stylists including from major campaign partners, Just Cuts, will be available from 11.00am to 2.00pm over the four days to shave, cut, or colour (with spray) the public’s hair for a minimum donation of $20.00, accompanied by 25% discount on the entry ticket to Madame Tussauds Sydney.
“Every single strand of hair that Australians, and wax figures alike, change – whether they choose to shave, cut, or colour, this World’s Greatest Shave – is going to help champion change for the 53 Australians diagnosed with blood cancer today,” said Mr Tanti.
According to the Leukaemia Foundation, there are more people diagnosed with blood cancer now than ever, with the incidence of blood cancer soaring by 47% in Australia, in the past decade.
“There is an urgent need for increased support, additional resources, and ultimately more funds needed to assist the growing number of Australians impacted by blood cancer.
“Funds raised through World’s Greatest Shave and activations like this with Madame Tussauds Sydney, will go towards providing vital support for those Australians diagnosed, as well as funding life-changing blood cancer research.”
Since 2000, the Leukaemia Foundation has funded over 360 blood cancer research grants, representing over $86.5 million in blood cancer research funding in today’s current dollar value.
The funding is helping to make significant strides into finding better and more targeted treatment options for Australians living with blood cancer, with the hope of one day finding a cure.
