Helen’s inspiring commitment

Helen decided to make lasting gift in honour of a dear friend.

One of Helen Holdey’s passions is spending time with rescued joeys

“I first met Rachel when I used to mind her for her mum, my best friend Brenda,” says Helen.

“Rachel was only a tiny tot, but she was a kid with an overflowing zest for life. When Rachel was diagnosed at 14, this young, gutsy lass displayed courage beyond her years.”

Sadly, Rachel lost her life to blood cancer, but the courage she showed inspired Helen to raise funds to help others impacted by blood cancer.

Incredibly, Helen collected donations for the Leukaemia Foundation’s old Doorknock appeal for over 15 years.

“Every year I collected much-needed funds, I felt Rachel was accompanying me.”

Helen has also made a beautiful commitment to families facing blood cancer in the future, with a life-changing gift in her will to the Leukaemia Foundation.

“Leaving this gift will hopefully mean that the lives of patients and families are made less stressful and maybe one day, there will be that cure, so the Rachels of the future will live a long and happy life.”

We’re so grateful for Helen’s long-spanning commitment to families facing blood cancer. Her care for others is simply inspiring.

All gifts in wills, big or small, make an immeasurable difference to people living with blood cancer.
