Blood Cancer Month
This September, learn what blood cancer costs Australians and join our blood cancer charity’s fight for change.
What is Blood Cancer Month?
Blood Cancer Month is an annual event in September, when organisations such as the Leukaemia Foundation aim to raise greater awareness of blood cancer.
Why it matters
As a blood cancer charity, the Leukaemia Foundation works to help Australians affected by the disease in a range of ways. We develop information on blood cancer, provide health support services, invest in research and advocate for our community.
What is blood cancer?
Blood cancer is a group of diseases that can start in the bone marrow, lymphatic system or plasma cells. There are over 120 kinds of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
The average cost of blood cancer in Australia
In 2026, the Leukaemia Foundation is focused on cutting the cost of cancer.
Cancer still costs far too much, in too many ways. These costs can impact someone’s health outcomes.
A recent survey we conducted found 1 in 8 people with blood cancer miss, delay or cancel treatment due to cost. We can’t believe this is happening at this scale in Australia – and are motivated for this to change.
How to get involved
We’re calling for governments to help alleviate the financial burden that comes with a cancer diagnosis. No one should be missing, delaying or skipping cancer treatment due to financial stress.
