Financial support for accommodation and travel expenses
Accommodation and travel costs can create extra stress and hardship for people with blood cancer and their families as they navigate medical appointments and treatment over many months. Accessing government schemes, and accommodation and transport services offered by the Leukaemia Foundation, can help reduce this financial pressure if you need to travel long distances to access care.
Subsidies and reimbursements
Patient accommodation and transport schemes (PATS) in each state and territory provide subsidies and reimbursements to help people access medical care far from home.
This financial support can also be accessed by people with blood cancer and their loved ones.
Different eligibility criteria are applied for each scheme, so it’s important to check the requirements for your area.
Visit the links below for more information about the subsidy scheme in your state or territory.
Accommodation support
The Leukaemia Foundation provides accommodation for people living with blood cancer and their families at no cost, where possible.
To access our accommodation support, patients must meet the PATS eligibility criteria specified by their state or territory, and other requirements.
Travel support
Assistance with out-of-pocket travel expenses is available through PATS for people who need to travel long distances or interstate to receive specialist medical care.
The Leukaemia Foundation transport service also provides vouchers and referrals to help people with blood cancer travel to medical appointments in capital cities. This practical support helps reduce financial pressures and anxiety for patients as they navigate their healthcare journey.
