Quality Innovation Performance accreditation

Meeting national healthcare standards

Patient safety and quality care are at the heart of everything we do at Leukaemia Foundation.

As part of this commitment, we have voluntarily achieved accreditation against the National Safety and Quality Primary and Community Healthcare Standards | Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Standards) through QIP | Quality Innovation Performance Limited.

This significant milestone reflects our dedication to supporting patients, carers and their loved ones throughout their cancer experience from diagnosis and treatment through to survivorship.

Why are these standards important?

The Standards were developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare to protect the safety and wellbeing of people receiving care in primary and community healthcare settings. They ensure healthcare organisations deliver care that is safe, effective and responsive to the needs of all patients.

Commitment to safety, quality and inclusivity

The accreditation of our clinical services under these rigorous standards demonstrates our focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement in delivering supportive care services.

It’s not just about meeting standards. It’s about setting a benchmark for excellence in the care we provide to the blood cancer community, particularly for those who are most vulnerable.

How do we meet the standards?

The Standards have been integrated into our clinical services and daily operations, as follows:

Clinical governance

Leukaemia Foundation has established a clinical governance system to ensure the safety and quality of our clinical services for patients and carers. This system includes embedding effective policies and procedures, a clinical governance framework, staff training and monitoring of our service performance.

Partnering with consumers

Our staff work collaboratively with consumers (people with blood cancer and their loved ones) to consult with them on specific issues and involve them in decisions that directly shape our programs and services. We regularly seek their input through formal and informal channels.

Our Consumer Engagement Program includes people with lived experiences of blood cancer from diverse backgrounds who provide valuable advice and feedback to inform the development and refinement of Leukaemia Foundation services and programs.

Clinical safety

Risk prevention policies and procedures are integrated into our service delivery model to ensure the clinical safety of our people and consumers is maintained at all times. This helps ensure services are delivered safely and consistently, and risks are promptly identified and addressed.

Informed consent is also embedded into our daily operations to ensure people feel empowered and informed at every stage of their care journey.

Enhancing care for diverse communities and priority populations

We recognise people from diverse communities and priority populations often face additional challenges in accessing and navigating healthcare including:
