Leukaemia Foundation Chairman Joins Shave Crew

โ€œBe bold, go bald!โ€

Thatโ€™s the call to action from Leukaemia Foundation Chairman, Beverley Mirolo OAM, as she prepares to lose her locks in this yearโ€™s 20th Worldโ€™s Greatest Shave.

Beverleyโ€™s team is strong, with daughter Fiona, granddaughter Stephanie and a number of Leukaemia Foundation staff also stepping up to shave and raise funds in support of people living with blood cancer.

โ€œWeโ€™ve set ourselves an ambitious fundraising target of $20,000 and it looks like weโ€™re well on the way,โ€ Beverley said.

โ€œAs a haematology nurse back in the 70s and 80s, through to my time working with the Leukaemia Foundation, Iโ€™ve seen a lot of change in the treatment and care of people living with blood cancer.

โ€œThankfully, weโ€™ve come a long way โ€“ blood cancer survival rates are growing and treatment is vastly improved but blood cancer remains a scary diagnosis.

โ€œBy the end of today, another 35 Australians will walk out of their doctorโ€™s surgery, completely shocked and blindsided by the news they have a type of blood cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma or multiple myeloma.

โ€œPeople with blood cancer still need every bit of practical support we can offer.โ€

In 2013, Beverley found herself on the other side of blood cancer, enduring her own battle with lymphoma and breast cancer.

Now in remission, Beverley is thrilled (if not a little daunted!) to play her part and shave her head in the 20th celebrations of Worldโ€™s Greatest Shave.

โ€œIt never fails to amaze me how many people put themselves forward to do something for others. If I can do my bit to encourage all Australians to get involved, then all the better.โ€
