Expression of Interest: Lived Experience Advisory Group

Help shape the future of blood cancer support

We’re establishing a Lived Experience Advisory Group to ensure the voices of people affected by blood cancer are at the heart of everything we do. We’re recruiting approximately 6-8 people to form this founding group.

This is your opportunity to use your experience to make a real difference for others facing similar challenges.

What you’ll be part of

As a member of our Lived Experience Advisory Group, you’ll:

  • Provide guidance and feedback on our programs, resources, and services
  • Share your insights to help us better understand the needs of people affected by blood cancer
  • Contribute to strategic discussions about priorities and future directions
  • Review materials and communications to ensure they resonate with the community
  • Help us identify gaps in support and opportunities for improvement
  • Connect us with the real-world impact of our work

Your lived experience is invaluable expertise. We want to learn from you.

Who can join

We’re looking for people who:

  • Have lived experience with blood cancer—either as someone diagnosed, a caregiver, or a family member
  • Can see the bigger picture beyond their individual experience and consider diverse perspectives
  • Are comfortable sharing their story and insights in a group setting
  • Can commit to regular participation (approximately quarterly meetings, plus occasional email feedback)
  • Are respectful and collaborative in group discussions
  • Want to contribute constructively to improving support for the blood cancer community

For this founding group, we’re specifically seeking:

To ensure our Advisory Group reflects the diversity of experiences within the blood cancer community, we’re especially interested in hearing from people who identify with perspectives such as:

  • Someone who was a caregiver to an adult with blood cancer
  • A young adult (under 40 years old) with lived experience of blood cancer
  • Someone who represents the chronic blood cancer experience (living with ongoing treatment and management)
  • Someone who was a caregiver for a child with blood cancer
  • Someone from a First Nations background
  • Someone from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background

You may identify with more than one of these perspectives. We’re committed to building a group that represents different ages, cultural backgrounds, types of blood cancer, treatment experiences, geographic locations, and family situations.

If you have lived experience but don’t see yourself reflected in the specific perspectives listed above, we still encourage you to apply. Diversity strengthens our work, and we value all voices from the blood cancer community.

What support we’ll provide

We want to make participation accessible and meaningful:

  • Online video meetings with members joining from across Australia
  • Meeting times scheduled collaboratively to suit members’ availability
  • Reimbursement for reasonable expenses (e.g. printing costs)
  • Clear agendas and materials sent in advance so you can prepare
  • A supportive environment where all contributions are valued
  • Ongoing communication and updates between meetings
  • Orientation and guidance on how advisory groups work—no prior committee experience needed

Your wellbeing matters to us. We understand that health can be unpredictable, and we’ll work flexibly around your circumstances.

Term of appointment

Initial appointments will be for two years, with the option to renew. This gives us time to build strong working relationships while allowing flexibility for members’ changing circumstances.

How to apply

If you’re interested in joining our Lived Experience Advisory Group, please complete this brief expression of interest by 13 February 2026.

What happens next

After the closing date, we’ll review all expressions of interest and may contact you for a brief informal conversation to learn more about your interest and answer any questions you might have.

We’ll aim to notify all applicants of the outcome by 6 March and hold our first Advisory Group meeting in late March 2026.

We’d love to hear from you. If you have any questions about the Advisory Group or the application process, please don’t hesitate to get in touch:
