Community support and history

Thanks to generous community donations, Leukaemia Foundation opened its first purpose-built patient accommodation and support centre in 1989. The $1.4 million Herston Village was renamed as the Phillip Desbrow Blood Cancer Centre in 2023.

Long-awaited renovations were completed in late 2017 thanks to incredible fundraising efforts by the community and a $998,400 grant from the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund.
