Leukaemia Foundation seeks volunteer army
Tuesday, 13 May 2014
This National Volunteer week the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland is seeking 80 keen volunteers to assist at the upcoming Brisbane Marathon Festival of which the Foundation is the charity partner.
During National Volunteer week (12 – 18 May), the Leukaemia Foundation recognises the invaluable support and financial saving that all volunteers offer not-for-profit organisations. A recent volunteer project, packing collector kits for our upcoming Doorknock Appeal, saved the Foundation $6000 and many man hours.
Volunteer Coordinator for the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland, Mary-Jane Morrisby said that the Foundation had an ongoing need for volunteers to assist with a busy roster of events, projects, and maintenance at the Foundation’s patient accommodation villages.
“We are putting the call out today for 80 volunteers to help at the Brisbane Marathon Festival between 1 – 3 August. If we make this target, intraining, the event organizers will donate $2 per marathon entrant to the Foundation. The more volunteers we have the better the opportunity to make a real difference,” said Ms Morrisby.
On Thursday (15 May), the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland will join thousands of organisations around the nation to mark the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week in Australia by holding a morning tea for those who have generously donated their time and skills during the past year. This will be in keeping with National Volunteer Week’s theme to “Celebrate the Power of Volunteering.”
