Registrations for the Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition are now open! U.G.L.Y. stands for “Understanding, Generous, Likeable You” and this fun and funky fundraiser is all for a beautiful cause. From 26 July to 8 September, participating bartenders will compete by raising funds to support patients living with blood cancers such as leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

To take part, bartenders just need to register at www.uglybartender.org.au and come up with some creative tactics that will raise the fundraising bar. There are some great prizes on offer for top fundraisers including an ice machine for the winning fundraiser’s venue, thanks to principal sponsor Hoshizaki Lancer, and a $3000 travel voucher. There are heaps of tips on the website to help take traditional bar fundraisers like raffles and meat trays to the next level.

Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland CEO, Bill Petch said the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition takes a novel approach to fundraising, and was particularly suited to charismatic and community-minded bartenders.

“The relaxed atmosphere enjoyed at pubs and clubs creates an ideal environment for fun and innovative fundraising activities which have the potential to raise thousands of dollars towards the care and cure of blood cancer patients,” he said.

“Last year 258 big-hearted Queensland bartenders raised more than $258,000 which went towards providing vital support services to patients and families whose lives have been devastated by blood cancer.”

“In past years, U.G.L.Y. contenders have been known to concoct a range of weird and wonderful fundraising activities including U.G.L.Y.-themed cocktails, charity motorcycle rides, ugly shirt nights, sheep shearing events, trivia nights, car washes and more!”

U.G.L.Y. is a great way to get people to your venue, while ultimately raising much needed funds to help the Leukaemia Foundation provide free services and support for people with blood cancer. It’s easy to sign up for the battle of the bars, just visit www.uglybartender.org.au today!

The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation that receives no ongoing government funding and relies on the support of individuals and businesses to fund research projects and provide care and support, free of charge, to patients and their families including transportation, accommodation and counselling.
