I found love on the run!
Aimee Dovell recently discovered a love for running…and through running she found love.
In 2012, Aimee’s aunt suggested she sign up to our 55km charity hike in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland raising funds to help beat blood cancers.
Realising she could combine her love for running with raising funds to help others, Aimee signed up on the spot and started training. The hike brought new friends who encouraged her and sparked a passion for fitness challenges.
Aimee continued with event running and her new-found interest led to her future husband, Brent, via online dating. He searched for ‘running’ and ‘hiking’ and up popped her profile!
He not only became her coach and running partner, but also her fiancée. In 2014 they achieved another milestone when they ran the 14km City2South together.
Aimee has a personal connection to blood cancer: another aunt has only recently been told she’s in remission from leukaemia and we helped with free accommodation in Brisbane while she underwent treatment at a nearby hospital. She is one of the #31Aussies diagnosed each day with a blood cancer.
The Gold Coast half marathon will be Aimee’s biggest road race yet and a huge personal challenge as she recovers from surgery on her foot. The happy couple will then take a break from running to wed in September.
A good heart and a willingness to push her physical boundaries has changed Aimee’s life and through her fundraising she hopes to change the lives of blood cancer patients, too.
