An amazing decision to save someone else’s life

Eleanor was travelling overseas when she was diagnosed with leukaemia at just 22 years old.

Flying home from Thailand, she found herself swapping the backpack for the hospital bed, facing a new world of treatment and decisions.

When Eleanor was trying to navigate what was next, it was your generosity that gave her immediate support through caring Leukaemia Foundation Blood Cancer Support Coordinators.

“It was so valuable to connect with the blood cancer community when we were still finding our feet, and my family received petrol and supermarket vouchers.”

It was this support that led Eleanor to make a powerful decision – one that will change someone’s life in the future.

“I was facing a bone marrow cell transplant with a 50% chance of not surviving the treatment, a scary statistic,” remembers Eleanor.

“At my ‘transplant party’, I decided to leave a gift in Will to the Leukaemia Foundation – knowing that if I didn’t make it, hopefully my gift would mean someone else would.”

“I’m proof that you can be young and still make a life-changing decision for future generations.”

Eleanor is now celebrating life as a survivor and reflects on the support that’s got her to where she is.

“I’m grateful for the medical staff, researchers and generosity of supporters like you.”

“I’m proud that my gift will give others the wonderful support that I was lucky to receive.”
