A message from the CEO

I’m throwing myself behind the Blood Cancer Awareness Month movement on social media this month – and hope it’s something to which you too can lend your voice.

Sadly, blood cancer is Australia’s hidden cancer crisis and it’s a much bigger issue than is understood. Blood cancer is actually Australia’s second most diagnosed cancer, but it’s not on people’s radar the same way as some other cancers.
We need to change this…

Lifeblood Elowen Boston

You made sure Elowen’s family were right where they needed to be. 

It was a first Mother’s Day that new mum Bronwyn will never forget. It was the day her nine-month-old daughter Elowen said her precious first words, “mum, mum.”  

But it was also the day Bronwyn and husband Will were blind-sided with the shocking news that baby Elowen had blood cancer.  You gave them the care and support to take on the huge fight against blood cancer

How research is helping children like Flynn

 For some children with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant may save their life. Sadly, this same treatment can result in a debilitating and potentially fatal side effect called graft versus host disease (GvHD), where the donor cells treat the child’s body as foreign.

Self-described “poo-thusiast” Dr Hannah Wardill’s latest research is focusing on altering gut health to fight GvHD via a poo transplant into the gut, straight after the stem cell transplant.

A selfless gift towards a blood cancer-free future

David feels lucky that his family has never been personally affected by blood cancer. 

But while doing some volunteering for the Leukaemia Foundation, David talked with people who sharing their experience and he met families staying at our accommodation centres. It led him to make an inspiring commitment.

Light the Night

We Light the Night to give hope to those who have faced, and are facing, their own blood cancer journey. We remember loved ones lost, who will live forever in our hearts. When we hold hope like a light within us, life-changing things can happen.

A newly imagined personalised transport program is going a long way to make sure that every Australian with blood cancer can get to their life-saving treatment, no matter where they live, the time of appointment or any special needs.
