ESA International Dorothy Banks Bursary
The ESA International Dorothy Banks Bursary provides an opportunity for Registered Allied Health Professionals/Registered Nurses practising in haematology in Queensland, who have a keen interest and passion in the care of their patients to undertake further professional development or to attend either a national or international conference.
Named in memory of Dorothy Banks, this bursary is jointly supported by ESA International and the Leukaemia Foundation. There has been a long historical and productive relationship with ESA International resulting in many positive outcomes for blood cancer patients and their families in this state. The successful applicant will be expected to share their newly acquired knowledge at relevant Leukaemia Foundation and ESA International forums and within their own clinical area.
Congratulations to Carlie, the inaugural winner of the ESA International Dorothy Banks Bursary. Carlie, a Cancer Care Coordinator at The Wesley Hospital will use the award to attend the 3rd International Conference on Multiple Myeloma in Milan.
Carlie’s attendance at the conference will give her the opportunity to make international contacts in the haematological field and learn the latest insights into developmental therapeutics of multiple myeloma, Waldestrom’s macroglobulinemia and amyloidosis. This newly acquired knowledge will be shared with her colleagues, leading to improved patient care and local expertise.
Information about 2017’s winner will be posted soon.
About Dorothy Banks and ESA
The Leukaemia Foundation’s ESA Village, a purpose built accommodation complex for patients and their families, was named in honour of the ESA International ladies who have contributed years of tireless fundraising efforts and dedication to the care of patients.
ESA is continuing their support of the Leukaemia Foundation by establishing the Dorothy Banks Bursary to honour their Queensland Founder. Dorothy started ESA International in 1963 and went on to open many ESA branches throughout the state.
