Doorknock to make a difference. 14 - 27 July
You can make a real difference to the lives of leukaemia patients by answering a knock at your door between 14 – 27 July and giving generously to the Leukaemia Foundation’s friendly volunteer collectors.
This year’s Doorknock Appeal also offers the opportunity to doorknock or donate online by visiting www.doorknock.net.au. This option has already proven popular for those who prefer to rally support from their online network of friends, family and colleagues.
Collectively, the Foundation hopes to raise $1.2 million from the appeal to support blood cancer patients with the provision of services such as home-away-from-home accommodation, counselling, education and transport to medical appointments.
Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland CEO, Bill Petch, said the Doorknock Appeal would make a difference by contributing to the ongoing maintenance of patient facilities and funding of the vital support services that allow patients and their families to focus on treatment.
“For instance even a few dollars will help fund accommodation near a treating hospital for regional families who may have to leave their homes immediately to begin an often lengthy course of treatment.”
“The Leukaemia Foundation aims to care for these families by easing some of the practical, emotional and financial worries that commonly result from a diagnosis.
“Just recently we completed the necessary expansion of patient accommodation in both Brisbane and Townsville to try and cater for the growing demand for care and support.
“Funds from the Doorknock Appeal will allow the Foundation to continue to offer these vital services free of charge to patients who are diagnosed every day across Queensland.”
Today it is estimated that five people in Queensland will be diagnosed with either leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood disorder. One person is diagnosed every hour across Australia.
To support further vital medical research and the Foundation’s range of patient support services please visit www.doorknock.net.au or give what you can when a volunteer collector knocks on your door between 14 – 27 July.
