Holden cars make a difference to Australians living with blood cancer
Holden’s relationship with the Leukaemia Foundation began in 2001 when staff participated in World’s Greatest Shave, and they continue to be involved with ‘shave’ each year.
The partnership progressed in 2002 when Holden began sponsoring a fleet of 8 patient transport vehicles. Today Holden provide sponsorship for 12 vehicles that provide patients with safe and secure transport to and from their hospital treatment. Driven by trained volunteer drivers, these cars assist about 3000 patients and their families each year and travel approx. 400,000kms.
Patients who benefit from the Holden sponsored patient transport vehicles are often motivated to write or phone to express their appreciation of the service. The mother of a young patient made the following comment: “my daughter Debbie felt so special being driven to the hospital and she was overwhelmed by the warmth and kindness of the lovely driver who made her day so much easier. When Debbie comes out of the hospital after treatment she always feels sad, but this day she came out smiling when she saw the brightly coloured Holden car”.
In addition, Holden have been active in involving the Leukaemia Foundation in other aspects of their business. For example, they have used the 60th anniversary of GM Holden and the international ‘GM Day’ to raise funds and awareness for the work of the Leukaemia Foundation. Holden have also assisted with arranging the auction of the last Monaro to roll off the production line. The auction of this iconic Australian car raised an amazing $187,000!
Our Partnership with the Foundation started in 2001 through participation in World’s Greatest Shave and has developed into a multi-faceted program centred on Holden providing vehicles across Australia to transport patients to and from treatment.

Quote from Peter Cox
One of our key services is the provision of free transport for our patients. This transport needs to be safe and infection free. Without Holden’s support this would not be possible.
