The Clem Jones Group
Founder of the Clem Jones Group:
Dr Clem Jones AO, 1918 – 2007
Dr Clem Jones was Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 1961 to 1975, and was well-known for his major contributions to the development and progress of Brisbane.
He was a qualified surveyor, and Principal of The Clem Jones Group – surveyors and town planners, which at the time of his retirement was the largest surveying practice in the Commonwealth.
He received his AO (Order of Australia) in 1976 and Queenslander of the Year in 1990.
Dr Jones became a major supporter of the Leukaemia Foundation in 1998 when he offered his first house to the Foundation to accommodate rural and regional patients and their families who needed to move to Brisbane for treatment.
Progressively over the years, Dr Jones generously provided six properties for use by the Foundation. These properties are located in Camp Hill on Brisbane’s southside and are still occupied today by patients and families who must relocate to the city to undergo treatment.
Dr Jones also donated $2 million to help build the Leukaemia Foundation’s new accommodation complex in Brisbane; the Clem Jones-Sunland Leukaemia Foundation Village.
Sadly Dr Jones passed away in December 2007 however his legacy within the Leukaemia Foundation will long be remembered and will benefit leukaemia patients for many years to come.
