Corticosteroids (steroids)

A group of synthetic hormones including prednisone, prednisolone, methylprednisolone and dexamethasone used in the treatment of some leukaemias, lymphomas and myelomas, and also to suppress graft rejection and graft versus host disease following bone marrow transplant. Side- effects include an increased risk of infection, weight gain, and sometimes bone softening with long term use.
