Village Green Blood Cancer Centre (Brisbane)

1/9 Machinery St, Bowen Hills QLD 4006

Village Green apartments in Bowen Hills

In 2015 our newest accommodation centre in Queensland, the Village Green Blood Cancer Centre, opened in Bowen Hills.

These 14 apartments are part of The Green apartment complex in the RNA Showgrounds.

The Village Green Blood Cancer Centre have been designed by award-winning architects Cox Rayner. The apartments have open living spaces, kitchens with European appliances, stone bench tops and stainless steel splash backs, and plenty of natural light. All apartments have air conditioning, ceiling fans, and energy-saving lighting.

Like all of our accommodation centres, the Village Green Blood Cancer Centre apartments are fully self-contained with all furniture, kitchenware, linen and sundries provided. All patients need to bring is their own food, clothes, and personal items.

The Village Green Blood Cancer Centre is an inner-city hub, providing families with a range of shops, services, and restaurants within walking distance, with many located on-site. The apartments are also only 800 metres from one of Brisbane’s major treating hospitals, the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Staff

Leukaemia Foundation staff work from the Village Green Blood Cancer Centre and are available to assist you and your family with any concerns you may have regarding your diagnosis, treatment, and any other issues which you may be feeling anxious about.

History

In 2014, the Leukaemia Foundation entered into an agreement with Lend Lease and Westpac to secure 14 apartments in The Green development. This project is a little different to the usual accommodation model we have had had in the past. Our four accommodation villages in Brisbane and Townsville are stand-alone developments that are entirely dedicated to providing a place to stay, along with emotional and practical support for patients and their families.

However, increased building costs and a lack of suitable and affordable land close to treating centres means we can’t continue to meet demand by building purpose-built centres. The changing face of health delivery in Queensland also means there is an increasing need for treatment centres in regional areas. In the future, we may need to provide accommodation varying in size in a range of other locations close to new treatment centres. Our current accommodation model of building large stand-alone centres is therefore lacking the flexibility we need to be responsive to any changes.

Purchasing units at The Green will mean we have a sustainable asset that can be leveraged long-term.
